We couldn’t wait to share our thoughts on Welcome to Sugartown as we are impatient bitches (and it was just so good), so here’s the link to our original post. Carmen was kind enough to provide us with her dreamcast for the book and we are sharing it with all of you in leiu of reposting our reviews. But please hear me when I say, “This is a book that you don’t want to miss!”
Title: Welcome to Sugartown
Author: Carmen Jenner
Genre: Contemporary New Adult
Release Date: November 3, 2013
Ana Belle never wanted anything more than to hang up her apron, jump on her Vespa and ride off into the sunset, leaving Sugartown in the dust.
Elijah Cade never wanted anything more than a hot meal, a side of hot arse and a soft place to lay his head at night where he could forget about his past.
But you know what they say about wanting: you always want what you can’t have.
Nineteen year-old virgin Ana is about to discover that’s not quite true because a six foot three, hotter than hell, tattooed, Aussie sex god just rode into town. He’s had a taste of her pie and he wants more– no really, Ana bakes pies for a living, get your mind out of the gutter.
She’d be willing to hand over everything tied up in a big red bow, there’s just one problem; Elijah has secrets dirtier than last week’s underwear. Secrets that won’t just break Ana’s heart, but put her life at risk, too. When those secrets come to light, their relationship is pushed to breaking point.
Add to that a psychotic nympho best friend, an overbearing father, a cuter than humanly possible kid brother, a wanton womanizing cousin, the ex from hell and more pies than you could poke a … err … stick … at.
And you thought small towns were boring.
Any beautiful, blonde with a sweet but feisty disposition could play Ana, she’s actually partially based on my niece—who looks a lot like Aussie model Ana Heatherton—but if I had to choose an actress it would be Amber Heard.
For me the living embodiment of Elijah is model Stephen James. I love his intensity. There’s literally three photos on the internet of this guy smiling (trust me, we’ve looked) He’s uber masculine and yet there’s something incredibly vulnerable about him. Plus this guy is McSex on a Stick! I mean, look at him! How could he not make you all melty?
If Welcome to Sugartown were ever turned into a film, I would camp out on Emma Stone’s doorstep and beg her to play Holly Harris until she finally gave in. Holly is hands down my favourite character! Emma has this amazing sense of comedic timing, she doesn’t take herself too seriously and she’s FREAKING HILARIOUS! What more could you want from a crazy ranga midget?
In the book Ana’s cousin, Jackson Rowe, is described as a combination of a few different Aussie guys. I wanted him to have a super Aussie bloke flavour (trust me there is an Aussie flavour, sometimes it’s deliciously yummy and others it’s … not so much) but in my head there’s only one guy who ticks all the boxes for me and that’s Ryan Reynolds.
Sammy would have to be played by Cole and Dylan Sprouse, those adorable little kids from Big Daddy. Of course we’d need a time machine in order to go back and have them be as adorable as they were when they were five.
Big Bob, Ana’s father, is a really hard one to cast. He’s sort of a combination of several rough and tough guys, but the closest I come to finding an actor that embodies all his traits is Mark Boone Junior from SOA. He’s a tough dude but there’s a teddy bear underneath, I just know it.
Carmen Jenner is a thirty-something author, doctor, pilot and CIA agent.
She’s also a compulsive, flagrant prevaricator who gets to make things up for a living.
While Sugartown may not technically exist, Carmen grew up in a small Australian town just like it, and just like her characters, she always longed for something more. They didn’t have an Elijah Cade, though. If they did, you can be sure she would have never left.
